Mills: Lingard desperate to join West Ham amid ‘odd’ manager reveal

Jesse Lingard would “love” to re-sign for West Ham United, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender claimed it would be a significant miss for the Londoners if they cannot complete a deal before the transfer window slams shut next week.

Football Insider revealed yesterday (26 August) the Hammers are confident of signing Lingard and the latest from a West Ham source is that talks over a deal are ongoing.

There is no agreement in place but David Moyes is hopeful a deal can be finalised.

“I think they will miss him if he doesn’t go back to West Ham because he was fantastic there last season,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“It’s a bit odd that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he was brilliant in training then he went off to West Ham. He said ‘He’s been brilliant and he’s part of our plans’. Then you don’t see him.

“Jesse Lingard must be thinking ‘Hang on, what do I have got to do here? You keep saying I’ve been brilliant and how well I’ve done and I’m not getting any game time. I’m not involved in stuff’.

“So, I’m sure he is questioning his role at Manchester United and thinking ‘Hang on a minute, West Ham were good to me. I played well and enjoyed it. I got back in the England squad because of that’.

“If there’s an opportunity to go back, I’m sure he would love to go.”

Man United

Solskjaer told Man United club media last Friday (20 August) Lingard was still a “big part” of his plans.

The 28-year-old has played four minutes in the Premier League so far this season.

In other news, West Ham have been tipped to sign a “perfect” striker for a cut-price fee in January after update.
