Mills: Morelos may be signing new Rangers contract after Gerrard reveal

Danny Mills has suggested Alfredo Morelos may want to sign a new Rangers contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and England defender claimed the recent speculation around his future could be because his agent is trying to secure his client a new deal.

Steven Gerrard told Sky Sports on 26 July the question marks about Morelos' future was "tiresome".

His current Ibrox deal expires in the summer of 2023.

"I'm assuming Rangers have had no bids for him," Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

"Until somebody puts a bid in it's like 'He's our player, end of'.

"You can have speculation but you're never quite sure whether that's being drummed up by agents.

"It's a case of 'Until we get a bid in, he's our player'.

"Is the agent trying to drum up a bit of business making clubs thinking 'We need to get in there before other clubs do'. Or is the agent trying to force Rangers to offer him a new contract?

"Whatever it might be, it's the game. It's what agents do. They're drumming up publicity and PR for their client."

Morelos has yet to return to the Rangers squad after being given an extended break because of his involvement in the Copa America.

He was spotted today (4 August) jogging around a hotel car park as he completes a mandatory quarantine period.
