Mills: Newcastle facing relegation ‘all of a sudden’ after source’s transfer update

Newcastle United will find it “difficult” to avoid relegation if they are relying on signing loan players in January, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England full-back delivered his verdict after Newcastle continued their search for their first Premier League win of the season.

They fell to their seventh defeat in 13 Premier League games on their visit to Arsenal at the weekend.

That leaves them six points adrift of safety with seven games between now and the January transfer window.

A club source told Football Insider before the game (November 23) they are only targeting loan signings in the upcoming window.

They will take a pragmatic approach rather than be stuck with expensive signings and get relegated.

Asked whether they can avoid the drop given their transfer strategy, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “All of a sudden, it’s going to be difficult.

“You have a look at Norwich, they’ve had a little bit of an upturn, can Dean Smith get them going. Brentford won’t be easy, Watford have had a couple of good results.

“It’s going to be tight down there, it’s no given. It’s not an easy situation to get out of.

“It’s going to be really interesting to see what happens before January.”

Newcastle welcome 19th-place Norwich to St. James’ Park on Tuesday night.

They could go within three points of Leeds with a win if the Whites lose to Crystal Palace at Elland Road.
