Mills: Phillips could quit Leeds after ‘concrete’ offer comes in

Danny Mills has claimed Kalvin Phillips will only be loyal to Leeds United until he has a “concrete” offer to leave the club.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender delivered his verdict after Phillips revealed his desire to sign a new contract with the club.

Football Insider revealed earlier this year (16 September) the Whites had opened talks with their star midfielder over a new deal.

Phillips told the Daily Mail last Thursday (23 December) he “wants” a new contract and is in regular contact with owner Andrea Radrizzani.

“Of course, he said that!” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s a Leeds lad through and through. He’s not going to say anything else unless something concrete comes in either way.

“Until somebody puts a bid in and there’s serious interest, which I don’t think will be until the summer, then he’s not stupid.

“He loves Leeds and wants to keep the fans on his side so why wouldn’t you come out with those sorts of comments and show loyalty to the club.

“At the moment there is nothing that has come in for him.

“I’m sure, at the moment, a lot is going on behind the scenes with Kalvin Phillips. He will have one eye on Leeds’ situation and where they are going to be.

“Let’s say the worst-case scenario does happen he has to be prepared for that. I don’t think they will, but if Leeds do drop out of the Premier League he doesn’t want to be part of that with his England future on the line.”

In other news, a Leeds United star with ‘no loyalty’ will quit ‘within a year’ after an update today.
