Mills salutes Postecoglou after he green lights ‘really good move’ for Celtic

It would be a “really good move” by Celtic to add Shaun Maloney to Ange Postecoglou’s backroom staff, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and England defender insisted it was “good management” by the Australian to admit he does not know everything.

The Daily Record reported at the beginning of June that former Celtic striker Maloney has held discussion with Peter Lawwell on a possible return to Parkhead.

He is currently working alongside Roberto Martinez with the Belgium national team as they prepare for this summer’s European Championships.

Football Insider revealed on June 3 Celtic have agreed compensation with Yokohoma F. Marinos for Postecoglou and are free to appoint him.

“You have to understand, if you’re coming at it completely blind, Celtic are a big club with a big fan base and you’ve got to understand where everybody is coming from and understand the magnitude,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“If there’s an opportunity to bring Shaun Maloney in why wouldn’t you take it? It helps you integrate into the team, into the area, into the club. Everything.

“That’s top management. You’re saying ‘I don’t know everything so I’m going to bring in somebody that does, to help me out.’

“I think it would be a really good move. Nobody would up sticks and move halfway around the world without taking some sort of advice from somebody with experience in that position.”

Maloney spent over a year in charge of Celtic’s Under-20 side before joining Martinez’s Belgium coaching staff in September 2018.

In other news, this is the real reason Eddie Howe snubbed Celtic as an autumn appointment is possible.
