Mills shares Leeds prediction after Bamford development

Patrick Bamford still has an England future if he continues to score goals for Leeds United, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender insisted Bamford did not blow his chance on the international stage despite his indifferent performance against Andorra.

The striker started the Three Lions’ first game at Wembley since the European Championship but was substituted just after the hour mark.

Harry Kane replaced the 28-year-old and scored from the penalty spot in England’s 4-0 win over the minnows.

Bamford was an unused substitute in England’s two other World Cup qualifiers.

“I don’t think Bamford’s blown his chances,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“The way that Leeds play and the way he plays for Leeds is fairly unique and fairly different to how other teams play.

“What he does for Leeds works for Leeds but it’s not necessarily going to work for other teams.

“Whereas Kalvin Phillips play for England is pretty much the same way he does for Leeds. He’s not asked to do so many different things. There are slight tweaks, of course, but generally, it’s the same position doing the same sort of things.

Bamford didn’t do anything wrong but he didn’t really have the opportunity to do anything right. That’s not just down to him. It’s down to the way the team plays.

“International football is different to domestic football and Leeds are different to the way most Premier League teams play.

“I don’t think he’s blown his chance. He’s just got to keep playing well, keep scoring goals for Leeds.”
