Milner delivers verdict on new Liverpool signing Salah
By Derek Smithson
James Milner believes that his new Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah will be a major success at Anfield following his recent arrival for a club-record fee.
Salah, 25, has completed his £36.9million switch to the Reds from Roma and has become the first signing made by manager Jurgen Klopp this summer.
The Egypt international has returned to English football after a two-year spell with Chelsea and will be looking to make a greater impact this time around.
The right winger is recognised for his blistering pace and his high work-rate, something that should make him a favourite with supporters.
Milner is confident that new signing Salah can make an immediate impact in the Liverpool side and feels he will fit into the style of play.
“The way we play, you can’t have any passengers,” Milner said, as quoted by the club’s official website. “Everyone mucks in and we’ve got great team spirit. Everyone gets on the front foot and gets the press; it only takes one person not to do it for it to break down.
“He’ll fit into that really well, with and without the ball. He’s very dangerous with it and causes a lot of problems. And without it, that’s so important the way we play.
“Looking at his stats and things like that, he has had a good season. He is a dangerous player and someone who is going to do really well for us, I’m sure.”
Salah was in superb form for Italian club Roma last season and helped them to second in the league table.
The wide man made 41 appearances across all competitions, scoring 19 goals and supplying 15 assists in return.
He struggled to make an impact during hist 19-game spell for Premier League side Chelsea and has now returned to England with a point to prove.
Salah will now be competing alongside the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho for a starting position at Anfield.
In other Liverpool news, Steve Nicol has revealed that he would prefer Philippe Coutinho over Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen.
