‘Miserable’ Daniel Levy has approved unprecedented Tottenham plan – pundit

Frank McAvennie insists that Antonio Conte has done what no other Tottenham manager has been able to do and persuaded the “miserable” Daniel Levy to spend big this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker argues that Conte has won the trust of Levy and managed to get the co-owner and chairman to approve his ambitious transfer plan.

Speaking to Football London on Tuesday (12 July), Conte insisted that, given the opportunity, he will continue to strengthen the team.

He added that he wants to improve the squad “numerically”.

The Italian has already made five signings for Spurs with over a month left of the summer window – and the new arrivals cost close to £80million in total.

When asked if Conte’s recruitment drive would bring a trophy in 2022-23, McAvennie told Football Insider: “It’s not a case of winning Tottenham a trophy, it’s a case of getting money from Daniel Levy, and Conte’s done it.

He’s done better than Mourinho or any other Spurs boss. Mourinho got them to a cup final, all this ‘he’s not very good’, what a lot of nonsense.

Mourinho is someone players want to play for, Conte is the same. He’s just got money from Daniel Levy and that’s a big difference.

You’d think it was his own money, he’s so miserable with it. Conte’s got the money so that’s a big plus. It means they’re both on the same level, they both trust each other.

I’ll guarantee Conte’s asked for an awful lot more. But they probably met halfway or something. But that’s a good start.
