‘Didn’t really fancy them’ – Kyle Lafferty delivers damning verdict on Celtic first-team duo
Hearts striker Kyle Lafferty has revealed that he always fancied himself to give Celtic defensive mainstays Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic a hard time when the two sides met at Tynecastle on Sunday.
The former Rangers forward ripped the pair to shreds and scored the second goal in Hearts’ emphatic 4-0 victory over the Scottish Premiership league leaders in Edinburgh.
Lafferty, as quoted in the Scottish Sun, disclosed that he “didn’t fancy” the defensive duo as players, a thought that he claims goes back to the Hoops’ 4-1 win over Hearts back in August.
He said: “In the first game of the season, I didn’t really fancy them as two centre-halves.
“Obviously, they are great centre-halves, but I knew that when you are up against them and put them under pressure there are mistakes in them.”
Many Celtic fans have been critical of first-team duo Boyata and Simunovic for their performances in recent weeks so even if it pains them to admit it, they could well agree with Lafferty’s damning verdict.
The Celts don’t have much time to get over the end of their British record unbeaten run, as they face a midweek match against Partick Thistle at Celtic Park, with the chance to go five points clear of Aberdeen.
The Bhoys then face Aberdeen in a top of the table clash at Celtic Park on the 23rd of December, a game which has the potential of being season defining in the battle for the Scottish Premiership title.
The Hoops then face a trip to Dundee and a Glasgow derby against Rangers before the winter break begins.
