‘Liverpool sources have confirmed to me Mohamed Salah contract details – it’s absolutely staggering’

Liverpool have secured the future of talisman Mohamed Salah by tying him down to a new two-year deal, taking his total stay at Anfield to a decade.

The 32-year-old’s previous contract was set to expire in June but the forward has shown no signs of slowing down despite his advancing years.

Salah has hit 32 goals and contributed 23 assists in 46 games across all competitions this season with Liverpool set to win the Premier League.

He turned down interest from the Saudi Pro League in order to prolong his career at the top of European football.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has revealed the “absolutely staggering” numbers behind Salah’s new deal after speaking to well-placed sources.

Salah turns down £3.5m-a-week to stay at Liverpool’

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness revealed the Egyptian turned down a £3.5million-a-week deal in Saudi Arabia to remain at Liverpool.

The forward declined to follow the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante to the emerging football project in the Middle East.

Wyness insisted Salah will believe a big-money contract will still be available when his career in England comes to an end.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “The financial side of Salah’s new deal is absolutely staggering.

“I’ve had this confirmed through sources. While he’s getting £350,000-a-week at Liverpool, he was offered £3.5million-a-week in Saudi. 10 times the amount.

“The numbers are staggering. He’s decided, for football reasons, to stay with Liverpool.

“He probably believes that sort of money will be available for him going forward.

“It is interesting to think that Ronaldo is nine years older than Salah and still scoring goals and doing well in Saudi.

“Salah takes care of himself as well as Ronaldo, so he does have a long period to go.

“But still, to turn down that money is staggering. It’s great for Liverpool.”

Liverpool could accept £60m+ Diaz offer

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Monday (14 April) Liverpool could consider a mega-money offer for winger Luis Diaz this summer as Saudi Pro League interest resurfaces.

The Reds have held contract talks with Diaz in recent months, with his current Reds deal set to expire in June 2027 – but no progress has been made.

Colombia international Diaz has made 45 appearances across all competitions this term, scoring 15 goals with Slot’s side set to win the Premier League.
