Mohamed Salah could be lying about future plans after Liverpool reveal – pundit
Noel Whelan has suggested Mohamed Salah could still leave Liverpool this summer despite the winger insisting he is staying.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker insisted “things can change quickly” and that players do not always tell “the truth”.
Speaking on Wednesday (25 May), as relayed by Sky Sports News, Salah, 29, stated “I am staying next season for sure. That’s clear.”
The Egypt international is heading into the final year of his contract at Anfield and negotiations over a new deal have been protracted.
As revealed by Football Insider earlier this month (14 May), Liverpool are set to hold new talks with confidence an agreement is not far away.
However, Whelan admitted there could be a twist in the tale this summer.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “There’s loads of speculation about what he’s going to do and where he’s going to go.
“Would he have gone to Real Madrid now that the Mbappe deal’s not? I’m sure there’s still speculation that will carry on throughout the summertime as well.
“If he does stay at Liverpool, that’s fantastic for the Premier League and fantastic for Liverpool.
“Look, sometimes what players say is never the truth, is it? He’ll be concentrating on the Champions League. If he does stay it’s great for Liverpool, great for the fans and great for the Premier League.
“But you know things can change very quickly in football.”

Discussions between Liverpool and Salah have been going on for months without a breakthrough.
The Reds are willing to hand him a four-year deal worth over £80million in total.
