Gary Lineker suggests Liverpool are missing Trent Alexander-Arnold
Liverpool have been lacklustre to start the season, and despite their summer investment, there a still seemingly big squad holes to fill.
Gary Neville was frustrated by Conor Bradley in Liverpool’s defeat against Chelsea, and the signs suggest Trent Alexander-Arnold is a big miss for the Reds.
Gary Lineker highlighted Alexander-Arnold’s absence when reviewing the Chelsea game on his podcast, The Rest is Football.
Lineker said: “I think they’re really missing Trent. People will go on about ‘oh, defensively’ but what he gives you offensively is impossible to replace.
“There is not another player I can think of in world football who plays that position the way he does offensively.”
Gary Lineker highlights the effect of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s exit on Mohamed Salah
One player who has looked out of sorts for Liverpool in the early stages of the season is Mohamed Salah, and Lineker believes Alexander-Arnold’s exit is the reason for that.
“I also think Mo [Salah] is missing him, that connection that they had,” Lineker added.
“Yes, sometimes they did get exposed in behind but they had someone who would cover, it was Szoboszlai or Jordan Henderson before that.
“You’ve got to say he’s worth his weight in gold going forward, and I always used to say, ‘stop worrying about him making the tiny mistake defensively’ because what he gives you the other way is just incredible.”
