Mohamed Salah: Liverpool chiefs could green light sale after reveal fans will love – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Liverpool could push to sell Mohamed Salah this summer if there is no breakthrough in contract talks.

The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 29-year-old has piled the pressure on the Reds after speaking openly about his future at Anfield.

As quoted by Sky Sports last week (27 May), Salah revealed he is “staying next season, for sure,” despite his contract expiring in 2023.

Liverpool

As revealed by Football Insider last month (14 May), Liverpool chiefs are confident a breakthrough in contract negotiations is not far away with a new set of talks scheduled.

However, Hutton suggested the club may have to explore a sale this summer if they cannot agree terms.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’s not ideal for Liverpool. It’s great for the fans and people like that because they think: ‘Great, we’ve got him for another year.’

“But to hold on to him for that year, you’re going to be losing him on a free and he’s going to go anywhere. That’s not good business for Liverpool.

“I think they would definitely be trying hard to either sign a contract extension or you have to just take your losses now and sell him on for as much as possible.

“It’ll be an interesting one to see how it develops because he’s saying all the right things. He’s saying he really wants to stay at the club, he’s keeping the fans on side.

“But it sounds like Liverpool aren’t doing their bit. I’m sure they will have offered him a decent enough contract to stay.

“I’m really interested to see how it plays out. Going into the last year with someone of such high value is not ideal.”
