Mohamed Salah: Pundit issues ‘nightmare’ Liverpool verdict after source’s contract update

Paul Robinson fears it is looking increasingly unlikely Mohamed Salah will put pen to paper on a new contract at Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one claimed “there is clearly an issue” between the two parties and said the club “will not be afraid” to hold firm.

Salah‘s current contract expires in the summer of 2023 and talks over an extension have proved problematic.

An Anfield source told Football Insider (26 March) that Liverpool chiefs remain hopeful of agreeing a new long-term contract with the Egypt star.

It is understood that the club believe Salah will eventual drop his wage demands due to a lack of viable alternatives in Europe.

When asked for his assessment of Salah’s future, Robinson told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs:

“Contract negotiations that drag on are never good for the club or the player. It can be a nightmare.

“There is clearly an issue. Something is clearly not right. The longer it goes on the less likely he is to sign.

“We have seen Liverpool be stubborn in contract talks in the past. They stick to their structure. I think they will do the same if it gets to that point.

“They should do everything they can to keep him because he is the best player in the world. But if they can’t, they are better off selling him and getting some money in. You cannot let him go on a free.

“I don’t think Liverpool will be afraid to stick within their structure. They have done it before.”
