Mohamed Salah: Pundit slams Liverpool after source’s ‘crazy’ update today

Liverpool will ramp up contract talks with Mohamed Salah now he has returned from the Africa Cup of Nations.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the player’s ‘ridiculous’ contract saga.

A Liverpool has source told Football Insider today the club are hopeful of securing Salah to a new contract now he is back from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Boston-based owners Fenway Sports Group have been unable to tie down the Egyptian superstar, who wants £500,000-a-week to stay at Anfield, following months of talks.

Salah returned to Liverpool on Tuesday (8 February) and McAvennie insists the club will bring the player back to the negotiating table soon as possible.

“How is this not sorted yet?” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I expect they haven’t been talking while he’s been away with Egypt.

“He was fully focused on the AFCON and he will be gutted that he didn’t win that.

“There is nothing in the way of these talks now so Liverpool will want him back at the negotiating table as soon as possible.

“He said he’s not asking for anything crazy, the whole thing is getting ridiculous now.

“He’s the best player in the world, just pay him what he wants. I have a feeling there will some teams who want to sign him.

“If Liverpool are going to get Salah back to the table, they should just sign off on the demands. It’s a no brainer.”

Salah told GQ on 11 January that he is not asking for “crazy stuff” in contract negotiations.

He also insisted the situation is in the club’s hands.
