Mohamed Salah sends message to Van Dijk after Liverpool contract news

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has taken to social media to send a message to teammate Virgil van Dijk after their 1-0 Champions League win over Girona on Tuesday (December 10).

Salah, 32, scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot after former Man United midfielder Donny van de Beek brought down Luis Diaz.

The forward has been in remarkable form so far this season, starting 20 of his 22 starts across all competitions, scoring 16 goals, and providing 12 assists in 1793 minutes of action.

Arne Slot’s side are the only Champions League team that still have a 100 per cent record, winning all six of their games, conceding just one goal, and scoring 13.

Lille will travel to Anfield in the new year for Liverpool’s penultimate Champions League group phase tie as they make one step closer to the knock-out rounds.

Mohamed Salah shows support for Virgil van Dijk amid Liverpool contract uncertainty

Salah, Virgil van Dijk, 33, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all set to see their contracts expire at the end of the season, with Van Dijk having already turned down Liverpool’s initial renewal offer.

Football Insider revealed (December 10) that the defender is still willing to sign a new deal at the club despite rejecting their first offer.

Due to their contract situations, all three players would be able to negotiate a pre-agreement with foreign clubs ahead of a free transfer in the summer.

Salah took to Instagram after the game to share an image of the two players to celebrate their win and remarkable start to the season.

Van Dijk has been just as important for Liverpool as Salah, starting all 20 of his appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals, and providing one assist in his 1800 minutes of action.

The Merseyside club remain top of the Premier League table despite having their derby with Everton postponed due to bad weather caused by Storm Darragh.
