Mohamed Salah told to ‘move in January’ as Liverpool ‘dressing room’ issue comes to light

MohamedSalah’s uncertain future at Liverpool is beginning to overshadow other issues at the club which Arne Slot needs to resolve.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who thinks Liverpool shouldn’t stand in Salah’s way of moving to Saudi Arabia.

Salah has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, who was dropped by Slot in Liverpool’s last Premier League match against West Ham.

Liverpool beat West Ham 2-0 at the London Stadium, with Salah an unused substitute, prompting further doubt around his future.

Mo Salah a ‘big issue’ at Liverpool

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Liverpool should let Salah leave the club if the opportunity arises in January.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness also insists Slot needs to “rebalance” his squad to improve performances.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “There are issues. The big issue, of course, was Mo Salah being benched [vs West Ham]. And I think that this may be the one thing that if they were to move, they should move in January if he’s going to go to Saudi after all.

Because I think that relationship is starting to overshadow some of the issues in the dressing room. There has been a lot of comment about why Salah hasn’t come out and spoken yet, though he did when his contract was up for renewal.

So look, there are a lot of issues there. And it seems to me that while there is quality in the squad, it is certainly the mental dynamics that are an issue right now and I think that there’s got to be a little bit more of a cleaning house to get things rebalanced and get some of those new talents in there functioning properly.”

Salah out of Liverpool festive fixtures

Salah will be absent for at least three Liverpool matches in December due to his participation with Egypt at the African Cup of Nations.

Egypt will be expected to go deep into the tournament, meaning Salah could miss more Premier League fixtures.

Cody Gakpo started on the right flank against West Ham, and with Florian Wirtz impressing on the left, the Dutchman could have a long-term future in the position with Salah’s unavailability.
