Moises Caicedo reacts to Brighton ace Lamptey’s announcement after exit update

Moises Caicedo reacted to an announcement from Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey after a major update on the 24-year-old’s future at the Amex.

The Ghanaian defender has carved out an important role for the Seagulls since joining from Chelsea in 2020 thanks to his versatility.

Lamptey appeared at both left and right-back last season in fairly equal measures, allowing Fabian Hurzeler to rest and rotate Pervis Estupinan and Joel Veltman.

The former England Under-21 international scored twice and assisted two more in 15 Premier League appearances.

But with his contract running down, it looked as though this might be the ex-Chelsea man’s final season with the South Coast side.

Football Insider revealed back in January Leicester had interest in signing Lamptey, although no deal materialised for the fullback.

Tariq Lamptey receives award after signing new deal with Brighton

Despite it looking as though the defender may depart, Lamptey signed a contract extension to remain at Brighton for another season.

Having signed a new deal with the Seagulls, the 24-year-old followed that up by announcing he had received an award on Instagram in a post captioned: “Honoured to receive the Ghana Football Awards ‘Football for Good’ award.

“A big thank you to my family, we started this journey of using football to inspire, uplift and impact people & communities. I’m grateful and thankful to God to see the progress and achievements.

“Thanks to our supporters, and sponsors! This is what we’ve always wanted and enjoyed doing to impact through football. The journey continues.”

The post was then liked by former Brighton man Caicedo, showing his support for the defender.

Brighton facing summer exodus

Football Insider Verdict

Part of the motivation for re-signing Lamptey will have been Man United’s interest in Estupinan.

Former Red Devils chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider exclusively the Ecuadorian defender wants to join the 20-time Premier League champions.

Estupinan is just one of several key figures at Brighton who could be on the move this summer as the club are facing an exodus.

Following a difficult season on loan at West Ham, PSV Eindhoven have been offered the chance to sign Evan Ferguson, sources have told Football Insider.

The Irish striker is not the only forward who may be on the move, as Joao Pedro could be heading north to join Newcastle, although the Magpies have suffered a setback, as Brighton have no need to sell the Brazilian star.
