Monk responds to reported PL interest in Leeds star
By Harvey Byrne
Garry Monk refused to comment on any reports linking star man Pontus Jansson to Premier League side Southampton in his press conference on Wednesday.
Football website Club Call have claimed that the Saints have reignited their interest in the 26-year-old to replace January departure Jose Fonte and even sent scouts to watch him in Saturday afternoon’s 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.
However, when asked about this in his press conference Monk stated that he only comments on facts and those are that he is currently a Leeds player, as covered by Yorkshire Evening Post chief football writer Phil Hay on his personal Twitter account.
Jansson has agreed a £3.5million permanent deal with the Yorkshire giants which will become official when his loan ends at the end of the season.
Additionally, he has agreed a three-year contract with Garry Monk’s team, meaning any onlooking club may have to pay out a large fee to obtain his services.
The powerful Sweden international has starred in 27 matches for Leeds since joining in the summer and supporters will certainly be hoping they can see a lot more of him in their team as they look to win promotion to England’s top flight themselves.
In other Leeds transfer news, Massimo Cellino is in advanced talks to seal this big-money deal.
