Morgan Rogers and Ian Maatsen react to Matty Cash amid Aston Villa exit links

Matty Cash’s latest Instagram post has gathered attention following speculation that the Aston Villa defender could be set to leave the club this summer.

Cash has been at Villa Park since joining from midlands rivals Nottingham Forest in September 2020.

The defender made 38 appearances for the Villains last season as Unai Emery’s side finished sixth in the Premier League table.

However, they agonisingly missed out on Champions League football on the final day of the season following a controversial 2-0 defeat at Manchester United.

Villa will instead play Europa League football next season for the first time the 2010/11 campaign, and with no Champions League football, Cash has now been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

Cash looks relaxed as post liked by teammates

Cash took to Instagram (17 June) to post a series of pictures of him and his friends enjoying his post-season holiday captioned with a man receiving a head massage emoji.

Teammates Morgan Rogers and Ian Maatsen both reacted to the post.

Maatsen commented “Quick PJ”, whilst Rogers liked the post amid uncertainty around the 27-year-olds future.

The Polish international does not seem to be searching for a move away from the club right now as he takes a break from football matters.

Difficult summer ahead for Villa

Football Insider verdict

After missing out on Champions League football this was always going to be a difficult summer for Unai Emery to navigate.

However, Cash has been a mainstay at Villa for the past five seasons and losing the right-back would be a blow for Emery.

Cash has been a regular presence in Villa’s back line since he joined the club.

Rumours are already circulating around the futures of many Villa stars, and the club will do well to keep hold of their most valuable assets.

Emery would have to move in the market to replace Cash with January signing Andres Garcia yet to convince and Axel Disasi’s loan spell terminating at the end of the month.

It is set to be a busy summer with attacking reinforcements also required following the end of Marcus Rashford’s and Marco Asensio’s loan spells.

With Premier League rivals strengthening their squads, next season could be tough for Villa.

The margins were incredible tight in the Premier League last season and that is without including either Manchester United or Tottenham who will look to return to the top end of the table.
