Morgan Rogers, Ebere Eze react to Liverpool’s Elliott after England U21s bust-up

Harvey Elliott received attention from Aston Villa and Crystal Palace stars after the Liverpool midfielder was caught up in a controversial incident.

The 22-year-old played 71 minutes as Lee Carsley’s England Under-21s beat Spain to reach the semi-finals of Euro U21 on Saturday, 21 June, with goals from James McAtee, Elliott, and Elliot Anderson.

Spain got one back with a penalty, but Anderson’s spot-kick four minutes into added time made sure that the Three Lions secured a face-off with the Netherlands in the next round.

While it was a night of huge success for the English, the full-time whistle brought about a mass brawl, one which saw McAtee yellow carded, and Elliott grabbed round the throat by Rafa Marin [Express].

There could be huge repercussions for the Spanish centre-back, but with the Liverpool ace taking a very mature approach, he is likely to continue starring at the tournament.

Taking to Instagram (22 June), Elliott shared a series of images from England U21s’ victory over Spain, simply captioned with a wave emoji, gaining likes from teammates Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister.

Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, Man City’s Phil Foden, and club legend Jordan Henderson all liked the post after Carsley’s side were successful in Slovakia.

Arne Slot likely to green light Elliott’s exit at Liverpool

Football Insider verdict

Despite the 22-year-old’s performances away from Anfield, he continues to be linked with a move away this summer due to his lack of game time under Arne Slot.

Football Insider understands that Elliott has already snubbed a move to Nottingham Forest, with links to the City Ground emerging way before the summer transfer window swung open.

With that in mind, Football Insider understands that a Serie A move would be most likely for the Liverpool playmaker, with Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, and Tammy Abraham all thriving.

A move elsewhere appears to be the ideal option for the 22-year-old, with Ryan Gravenberch and Mac Allister forming the base of the midfield, and Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai further forward.

Speaking to Liverpool News 247 (14 June), Ian Darke said now is the time for the player to find a new home, suggesting Graham Potter’s West Ham as a potential destination this summer.

He has come on leaps and bounds since his early days, maturing immensely and adapting his game on the pitch, but it is not quite enough to convince Slot of his talents, clearly.
