Morgan Rogers reacts as Barcelona agree terms for new signing
Morgan Rogers has reacted to a new message on social media involving Barcelona amid uncertainty around his long-term future at Aston Villa.
Rogers has emerged as one of the best playmakers in the Premier League over the last 18 months at Villa, despite the lack of fanfare around his February 2024 move from Middlesbrough.
The 23-year-old established himself as one of Unai Emery’s key players last term, registering 14 goals and 13 assists in 54 games.
Rogers signed a new contract at Villa in November amid interest in his services from Chelsea and Tottenham, among others, and his form has continued into this season, with eight goals and six assists in 29 matches so far.
Ollie Watkins has tipped Rogers to play for Real Madrid in the future, but it is a move by their arch-rivals Barcelona that has caught his eye on social media.

Rogers reacts on Instagram as Joao Cancelo returns to Barcelona
Barca have not been concretely linked to Rogers yet, but that could change soon, with the Villa star taking to Instagram to fuel rumours of a potential move to the Camp Nou by reacting to a new message from former teammate Cancelo.
The pair were teammates at Man City, but never played a senior game together before Rogers left for Middlesbrough in 2023, while Cancelo went out on loan to Barcelona.
Cancelo has now returned to Barcelona, on loan from Saudi side Al Hilal, and he took to Instagram to post a message saying: “‘We go back to places where our hearts felt at home'” after the move, which Rogers reacted to with numerous red heart emojis.
Villa have no plans to let Rogers leave this month
Rogers’ fine form at Villa and on the international stage with England has seen him linked with a whole host of top clubs in the last few months.
He is likely to have several of those aiming to sign him in the summer, but Villa will not be letting Rogers leave in the January window.
The 23-year-old has been their best player so far this term, helping fire Emery’s side to third place in the Premier League after a run of 11 successive wins.
His future at the club remains unclear, despite signing a new contract in November, and Villa’s continued success as a team will be imperative to keeping him past this summer.
