Morgan Rogers reacts to Romeo Lavia’s ‘champions’ message amid Chelsea links

Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers reacted to a message from Romeo Lavia amid links of a move to Chelsea this summer.

The 21-year-old Belgian midfielder is held in high regard and was regularly used by Enzo Maresca throughout the Blues’ Club World Cup campaign.

However, Lavia‘s injury issues have limited him to just 17 Premier League appearances since joining in 2023.

And as a consequence, the former Southampton man has struggled to break into Chelsea’s starting XI with Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo the clear first-choice pairing ahead of him.

Adding to Lavia’s potential concerns has been the return of Andrey Santos. The Brazilian midfielder was a standout performer in Ligue 1 with Strasbourg last season and was preferred as a substitute over the Belgian in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over PSG in the CWC final.

Following the win, Lavia shared an image of himself holding the CWC trophy aloft, captioned: “World Champions.”

The post was liked by Rogers, who came through Man City’s academy alongside the Belgian midfielder.

Chelsea interested in Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers

Football Insider Verdict

Pete O’Rourke revealed exclusively to Football Insider in May that Chelsea were interested in signing Rogers.

The Blues have been on a tear this summer, spending over £200million [transfermarkt] and Chelsea have also received a record-breaking fine from UEFA.

However, Dan Plumley told Football Insider exclusively that as a consequence of a fine of their own and the threat of further sanctions from the European governing body and the Premier League, Villa may have to sell a first-team player this summer.

Chelsea may look to take advantage of the Midlands club’s plight by swooping for Rogers, but a move for the England international will be incredibly expensive.

The former City man has five years remaining on his current deal at Villa Park and in spite of their financial woes, Unai Emery’s side will likely resist all efforts from the Blues to bring the 22-year-old to West London.
