Morgan Rogers sends John McGinn message after Aston Villa loss to Crystal Palace

Morgan Rogers has made his feelings clear on Aston Villa captain John McGinn in the wake of their defeat to Crystal Palace in midweek.

Unai Emery‘s side had a night to forget at Selhurst Park on Tuesday (25 February) as they were beaten 4-1 by their hosts.

It was a below-par performance from most in an Aston Villa shirt although Rogers did impress, getting on the scoresheet with an excellent finish on the turn, while McGinn’s performance enraged Villa fans.

There was also some frustration over a disallowed goal for Rogers and Aston Villa that has led to calls for a change to the offside law.

That defeat to Oliver Glasner’s side had dealt a blow to the Midlands club’s hopes of securing qualification for the Champions League again this season.

Despite that, it seems as though spirits are still high in the Aston Villa camp, judging by the latest social media activity from Rogers.

Taking to his Instagram story, the attacker posted a picture of himself with his arms around McGinn, who did not produce his best performance against Crystal Palace, in training.

Rogers then accompanied the picture with a caption that read: “Love ya skip”.

That was also tied with a love-heart emoji, underlining the togetherness that remains within the squad at Aston Villa.

Unai Emery has big call to make over Aston Villa priorities after Crystal Palace loss

Football Insider Verdict

Next up for Rogers, McGinn and co. is a clash with Championship side Cardiff City in the fifth round of the FA Cup at Villa Park on Friday night (28 February).

That could see Aston Villa reunite with a former player in Anwar El Ghazi, who is now playing for their next opponents.

With that defeat to Crystal Palace leaving Emery’s side facing a big challenge to make the Champions League, it may give him an interesting decision on his priorities ahead of this game.

With Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham all already out of the FA Cup, this could be seen as a big opportunity for Aston Villa to pick up some long-awaited major silverware.

Emery may therefore have to decide whether he would prefer to focus his efforts on potentially doing that, or guiding them back to European football’s top decision this season.

Considering how much both might mean to supporters, it will be interesting to see which one goes to the top of the list of priorities for the club between now and the end of the season.
