Morgan Rogers to Liverpool: Stefan Borson drops verdict on forced sale

Aston Villa could be forced to agree more player sales this summer as they continue to toe the profit and sustainability (PSR) line.

Under the PSR rules, top-flight clubs are only permitted to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period.

Villa posted a club-record revenue in 2023-24 after their turnover increased from £217.7million in 2022-23 to £275.7million, while their losses fell from £119.6million to £85.4million.

Douglas Luiz, Tim Iroegbunam and Omari Kellyman all moved on before last year’s accounting deadline to help them avoid a spending breach.

Fabrizio Romano reported on 30 April Liverpool and Chelsea are both monitoring Morgan Rogers ahead of the summer transfer window.

However, finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider there is an “extremely low chance” Villa will sell the England international this summer.

Football Insider revealed on 9 April Villa are confident of keeping Rogers despite Manchester City also being linked with a move to re-sign the 22-year-old.

The winger, who can play in a range of attacking positions, has registered 14 goals and 13 assists in 51 appearances this season.

Aston Villa could sell star after PSR issues

Borson insisted Villa are more likely to sell another youth player this summer to resolve their PSR issues.

He told Football Insider: “I think there is an extremely low chance of Villa selling Morgan Rogers.

“I can’t see that would be the sort of deal that they would be doing.

“I think what they’ll do is what they’ve done before.

“They have been quite inventive in terms of the deals that they’ve done.

“They have sold effectively their youth players, or they’ve done the sorts of player exchanges that work for Premier League PSR but that don’t work for Uefa PSR, and they’ve just taken the hit of the Uefa stuff.”

Aston Villa plan to accept Leon Bailey offers

Football Insider revealed on 30 April Villa plan to accept offers for Leon Bailey ahead of the summer transfer window.

Unai Emery is keen to offload the 27-year-old and bring in a new winger capable of providing more of a cutting edge.

The Jamaica international, whose contract expires in 2027, has registered just two goals and four assists in 37 appearances this season.
