Mourinho may just have pulled off a ‘masterstroke’ at Tottenham – Robinson

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Jose Mourinho and his Tottenham staff for their management of Gareth Bale.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one claimed the club’s handling of Bale, 31, could prove to be a “masterstroke” with the Welshman coming into form at the “perfect” time.

Bale scored twice on Sunday night, as Spurs boosted their hopes of finishing in the top-four with a 4-1 win over Crystal Palace.

He has contributed six goals and three assists in his last six games across all competitions.

As quoted by the BBC, Jose Mourinho said “psychological scars” from a number of injury-plagued years prevented Bale from producing his best in the first half of the season.

Robinson said the Wales international has proved in recent games that he is still “one of the world’s best”.

“Bale is oozing confidence,” he told Football Insider. “You can just see it.

“He has had a difficult time of things this season and he has not played unless he has been 100 per cent fit.

“There is an aura around him now. The excitement we all had when he first game, he is living up to it. It is coming to fruition.

“The last few games he has been one of the world’s best players, like we know he can be, rather than the bit part player he was at the start of the season.

“The way he is able to play right now, is that credit to Spurs and the way they have nurtured him and brought him in slowly? It could prove to be a masterstroke from Mourinho and his staff because now Bale is fit and ready at the perfect time of the season.”
