Moussa Dembele could ‘save’ Everton after Celtic expert’s claim

Frank McAvennie has backed Moussa Dembele to “save” Everton and Frank Lampard.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham and Celtic striker said he is disappointed Dembele has not hit the heights that he expected.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato (19 January), the Toffees are battling it out with Premier League rivals Aston Villa to sign the 26-year-old.

The former Celtic man is available for a cut-price fee this month with his contract at Lyon due to expire in the summer.

Lampard’s future at Goodison Park is in real trouble after a 2-0 defeat to West Ham on Saturday (21 January).

Yesterday (21 January), this site revealed that the Toffees are set to sack the former Chelsea boss in the wake of the defeat to the Hammers.

McAvennie suggested signing Dembele could be the answer to Everton’s crisis.

“I am so disappointed with him because when he was at Celtic he had the world at his feet,” he told Football Insider.

I thought he was going to end up at Barcelona or Real Madrid, Man City or Man United.

I thought he was going for the top, I really thought he was that good. He took the easy route back to France.

Everton

I think Everton fans will like him if he gets back to the form he had at Celtic. It does not really look as if he is progressing his career.

Going to Everton he will score goals. But whether he gets enough chances or not. I would put money on him saving Lampard and Everton because he is a goalscorer.
