Dembele sends Twitter message to Celtic fans after St Johnstone victory
By Matt Farr
Celtic striker Moussa Dembele praised his side’s performance on Twitter following their 5-2 victory over St. Johnstone on Sunday.
The 20-year-old played a starring role, coming off the bench in the second-half to net a superb hat-trick, ending the home side’s hopes of pulling off a remarkable victory.
St. Johnstone had a one-goal lead when Dembele was introduced, but the endless quality the young Celtic goalscorer demonstrated proved to be too much for the visitors.
Liam Henderson had given Celtic the lead after just six minutes, but the home side responded with two goals of their own, courtesy of Keith Watson and an own-goal from Dedryck Boyata.
A dubious penalty from substitute Dembele drew the Scottish Premiership leaders level with just under half-an-hour to go, before Scott Sinclair, and two more from the France U21 international completed the rout.
Following the performance, Dembele took to his personal Twitter account to praise both the character shown by his side, and the influence of the travelling fans.
The hat-trick, his second of the season, took Dembele’s tally to 23 goals from 39 appearances in all competitions.
He has proven to be a shrewd piece of business by manager Brendan Rodgers, who made him his first signing since being named as Celtic boss in the summer.
He did not cost the club a penny, after his Fulham contract expired, and he is now valued by the club as high as £40million.
In other Celtic news, the end is nigh for this Celtic player, who is inevitably heading for the exit door in several months’ time.
