
Moyes confirms what West Ham are looking for in the January window
David Moyes believes West Ham need to “add quality” and that they’re currently “short on midfield players” ahead of the January transfer window opening.
Speaking with Sky Sports, after his side lost 1-0 to Arsenal on Tuesday, the Hammers boss suggested what the club needs after he explained why he started two 18-year-olds in midfield.
“What we’re seeing as we go along is the next step is adding quality,” said Moyes.
“Tonight we were short on midfield players and generally we’re short in that area and we could do with adding a little more craft.”
“It’s an area we’re short at the moment.”
Declan Rice and Domingos Quina were the two youngsters who started in midfield against the Gunners, with Quina’s inclusion surprising fans ahead of the game.
Moyes complimented both players’ performances and revealed the club has develop young talent not just make signings to addresses any problems, because January is “never the easiest month to deal with.”
Moyes has been recently linked with move for Bournemouth’s Harry Arter,who the manager is a huge fan of.
After being eliminating from the League Cup on Tuesday, West Ham turn their attention back to the Premier League as they play Newcastle United at the London Stadium on Saturday.
The Hammers lost to the Magpies in August, slumping to a 3-0 defeat at St James Park.
However, West Ham are sat 15th, two points clear of Newcastle United before their meeting.
A win against the Magpies could move them up to 12th in the table, depending on other results.
