Moyes ‘fuming’ as West Ham miss out on Lingard – pundit

Paul Robinson insists David Moyes will be gutted to have missed out on his “number one” West Ham transfer target Jesse Lingard.

The former Tottenham stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest Hammers transfer business.

The Telegraph reported (August 31st) that the Hammers baulked at United’s £30million asking price for the midfielder, who has just one year left on his contract.

West Ham instead secured the signing of midfielder Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow on deadline day, after ending their interest in Lingard.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month that West Ham were confident of capturing the Man United man after his incredible loan spell last season.

Robinson insists Vlasic is a great player and hailed the Hammers’ transfer business despite the failure to sign Lingard.

Asked by Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs if the manager would be fuming at missing out on Lingard, Robinson said: “Yes. Lingard was his number one target, no doubt.

“Vlasic is a brilliant player. I’ve seen him play at an international level and he brings a quality that West Ham didn’t have.

“I like the way Moyes has operated. From the start he’s said he won’t sign players just for the sake of it.

“He wants quality players who are going to better his team. I still think they are a little bit light after missing out on Lingard.”

So far this season, Lingard has only played four competitive minutes.

While on loan at West Ham he scored nine goals in 16 games.
