Moyes has put Sullivan and Gold in their place as West Ham deal all but done – Phillips

It is “refreshing to see” David Sullivan and David Gold step aside and let David Moyes take control of transfers at West Ham.

That is the view of ex-England and Premier League striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as West Ham close in on a deal for Kurt Zouma.

Fabrizio Romano reported today (26 August) Zouma’s move to the London Stadium from Chelsea is a “done deal”.

Sky Sports also reported today that the centre-back has been Moyes’ primary target this summer.

In previous years it has been Sullivan and Gold spearheading the club’s transfer business.

“It helps with the way they performed last season and how they’ve started this season,” Phillips told Football Insider’s Dylan Childs.

“If I’m an owner I’m like ‘I’m not getting involved. He clearly knows what he’s doing. He’s got that experience, let him have full control’. I think that’s a sensible option.

“Yes, if David Moyes wants Kurt Zouma and it’s close then let him have him. He showed with the players he brought in last season he’s got the best out of them.

“They were excellent the other night, against Leicester City. Zouma will add to that. He’ll get better under David Moyes too.

“It’s refreshing to see the owners are stepping aside and letting the manager take control.”

Zouma has played 165 times in the Premier League during his time at Chelsea and loan spells to Stoke City and Everton.

The 26-year-old also has eight France caps to his name.

In other news, there has been a huge update on West Ham’s bid to sign Jesse Lingard after talks today.
