Murty details Rangers summer recruitment update, makes admission about own future
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has confirmed the Ibrox giants have started planning for next season – admitting that it is regardless of whether he is manager or not.
The Gers boss is under contract until the end of the season after taking the reins in October following Pedro Caixinha’s sacking but it is unclear if the former Reading captain will still be at Ibrox next term.
Director of football Mark Allen will likely have a big role to play in the identifying and scouting of potential targets and Murty confirmed the club had already started work on that.
“Plans have already started for next season regarding pre-season and recruitment regardless of whether I am here or not next season,” Murty said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.
The Light Blues are ten points behind bitter rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership ahead of this weekend’s trip to face Motherwell at Fir Park.
The Glasgow giants go head-to-head next month when they meet at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi-final, with one more league game between the pair also to be scheduled.
Murty had Gers fans dreaming of a title challenge ahead of the recent Old Firm clash before a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Brendan Rodgers’ side ended the Light Blues’ hopes of lifting the title.

It’s good to see Rangers are getting their preparation for next season underway and are giving themselves the best possible chance of challenging Celtic for the league flag next season. The Gers need to hit the ground running next season and avoid another complete shambles like this season’s European exit to Progres Niederkorn. Regardless of what happens with Murty, if the Gers put the work in identifying the right targets then they’ll be in a far better position than a year ago.
