Talks being held: Rangers to make more approaches as Murty shopping spree continues – confirmed
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has confirmed that he will approach more clubs with enquiries about new players as he continues his January shopping spree.
Murty has already brought in four new faces in January with Jamie Murphy, Sean Goss, Russell Martin and Jason Cummings all arriving at Ibrox.
The Light Blues boss has also added Michael O’Halloran and Andy Halliday to his squad after the pair returned from loan spells.
So far, Carlos Pena has been the only player to leave Ibrox after being reunited with Pedro Caixinha at Mexican side Cruz Azul on a year-long loan.
As well as looking to bring more players in, Murty confirmed he expects “enquiries” about some of his squad ahead of the window closing at the end of the month and he has added that talks are being held with the hierarchy about more deals.
“By the end of the window, maybe. Things are ongoing and always ongoing in a transfer window,” Murty said, as quoted by the club’s official website.
“It’s a really, really busy time and I expect people to come and enquire about some of our players and I expect to enquire about other players.
“But, I obviously don’t think it’s right to talk about them until it’s done. Business is going on behind the scenes and work is being done.
“Talks and conversations are being had at a high level. It’s all to the good and it’s so I have as much of a headache as possible come selection time.
“It is a responsibility I don’t think I was ready for. But, looking at it now, I think it is one any manager would relish and should relish. We can move forward and we can be better than we were.”
The Gers have underwent a number of rebuilds in recent years and have seen a huge turnover of players in the last three seasons.
With Murty possibly being replaced by the Gers in the summer, there could be yet another if Murty and director of football Mark Allen don’t get it right this month.
The Ibrox giants return to action after the winter break when they take on Highland League minnows Fraserburgh in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup on Sunday.
In other Rangers news, this £50,000-a-week forward eager to move to Ibrox is within 48 hours of a switch.
