Murty makes admission about Rangers manager pressure after appointment
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has admitted that the pressure “might” increase on him but believes the focus should be on his players and not him
The Gers have lost their last two games and face Motherwell on Wednesday night at Ibrox with an Old Firm clash with Celtic looming this weekend.
Murty was handed the reins until the end of the season after originally taking charge on an interim basis in October after Pedro Caixinha’s sacking but believes there is only so much he can do before the responsibility falls to the players.
“The pressure might increase on me because it’s now ‘my team’, if you will,” Murty said, as quoted by STV.
“They are still the same players that I inherited and I’m still the same person.
“We have to make sure though that the players are calm about my role and that it’s still not really about me.
“It is still about them and when they do their work. I’ve finished most of my work by 2.50pm on a normal match day.”
The Gers are currently third in the Scottish Premiership and trail Aberdeen by three points with leaders Celtic a further 11 ahead.
The Gers only have two more games to play in 2017 before the winter break and a trip to Florida to take part in the Florida Cup with the likes of PSV Eindhoven and Corinthians.
Murty joined Rangers in August 2016 as Under-20’s head coach from Norwich City’s Academy but has already had two stints in charge of the first-team at Ibrox.
The former Scotland international has won six of his ten games in charge since taking over from Caixinha – including back-to-back wins over Aberdeen.
Murty is the only Rangers manager to have avoided defeat against Celtic since the club returned to the top tier of Scottish football in 2016.
In other Rangers news, three Gers players could play their final games for the club against Celtic this week.
