‘It’s frustrating’ – Graeme Murty reveals what annoys him most about Rangers defeats

Graeme Murty has revealed it’s “frustrating” watching Rangers struggle in games after seeing how well they can play in the back-to-back wins over Aberdeen last month.

The Gers eased past Derek McInnes’ side twice in a matter of days to leapfrog the Dons in the Scottish Premiership table but have since struggled to put together consistent performances and pick up wins.

Back-to-back defeats have left the Gers three points behind the Dons in the table again going into their clash with Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night.

Murty believes the wins over Aberdeen must be the benchmark for players over the coming weeks as they try and put together a run of results.

“The Aberdeen games are the classic example,” Murty said, as quoted by The Scotsman.

“Had we managed it well, they could have been a watershed moment for the players in terms of understanding the intensity and the level of quality required

“I’d hoped we’d kick on from there but it’s frustrating that we can’t show a level of consistency where we are able to display that level of quality for longer.

“However, that remains the benchmark of the quality we need that the players have to look at.”

Since the wins over Aberdeen, the Gers struggled to wins over Hibs and Ross County before losing to St. Johnstone and Kilmarnock leaving the Gers with a huge 14-point gap to league leaders Celtic.

The Gers travel to their bitter rivals on Saturday in the second Old Firm clash of the season and will be hoping for a similar result as their last visit to Celtic Park when they came away with a 1-1 draw after Clint Hill’s equaliser.

Murty was also in charge of that match – his last as caretaker before Pedro Caixinha’s appointment as manager – and the former Scotland international will be desperate to keep up his unbeaten record at Celtic Park.

In other Rangers news, three Gers players could play their final games for the club against Celtic this week.
