Graeme Murty: This is the type of players Rangers need
Rangers manager Graeme Murty insists he needs “confident and brave” players when they take on Motherwell on Wednesday night at Ibrox.
The Gers have lost their last two games and Murty is cautious that he can have a detrimental effect on his players by ranting and raving over a defeat.
With a trip to Celtic following quickly after Motherwell’s visit to Ibrox, Rangers fans will be desperate to see their side get back to winning ways sooner rather than later.
Murty feels he needs to find a way to have a “positive impact” on the players and put them in the best position to go out and win games.
“We’ve got a game coming up on Wednesday and we need people who are confident and brave and able to express their ability on Wednesday,” Murty said, as quoted by the Evening Times.
“And if I did anything on Saturday to erode that, then that is a negative impact that I will have had.
“I need to find a way – eventually – to have a positive impact on these players, so that they walk out confident onto the pitch, feeling intense and aggressive.
“Maybe they possibly even need to feel a little bit wounded, and go out and put it right on Wednesday.”
The Gers are currently third in the Scottish Premiership and trail second-placed Aberdeen by three points.
Leaders Celtic are 14 points clear of the Gers after playing one game more than Murty’s side.
The Glasgow rivals will meet at Celtic Park on Saturday in the second Old Firm clash of the season with Brendan Rodgers’ side hoping to put the final nail in any title aspirations the Light Blues may have still held.
Murty joined Rangers in August 2016 as Under-20’s head coach from Norwich City’s Academy and has remarkably already had two stints in charge of the first-team at Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, three Gers players could play their final games for the club against Celtic this week.
