Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb react to Jahmai Simpson-Pusey announcement at Man City
Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb reacted to a new announcement concerning Jahmai Simpson-Pusey following his breakout season at Man City.
The 19-year-old centre-back has six senior appearances under his belt, with Pep Guardiola trusting the academy graduate across the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, and even the Champions League.
While not all performances worked out for the youngster, it would have been an incredible experience for him to build confidence, especially as Mick Brown told Football Insider that Man City could sell John Stones this summer.
The Citizens have often been short on defensive options during the 2024/25 campaign, with Ake and Manuel Akanji spending time on the treatment table while Kyle Walker is out on loan at AC Milan.
Despite being thrown into the deep end, the player has been recognised for his efforts throughout the campaign, especially with the Under-21s team in the Premier League, and rightly so.
Man City first-teamers congratulate young star
Taking to Instagram (13 May), the official club account wrote: “Jahmai Simpson-Pusey is the 2024/25 Premier League 2 Player of the Season!”
“Congratulations, Simpson-Pusey,” signed off by a clapping emoji, with Ake, Bobb and Nico O’Reilly all liking the post as a show of support for the youngster.
Pep Guardiola to use Man City youngsters for expected summer rebuild
Football Insider verdict
While the signings of Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, and Abdukodir Khusanov created a lot of excitement during the winter transfer window, fans are just as eager to see academy graduates feature.
Phil Foden, albeit Man City fans have been critical, is an integral part of the current squad under Guardiola, and is likely to play a key role for the foreseeable future at the Etihad Stadium.

Rico Lewis and O’Reilly have both shot to fame in the first team in recent seasons, and many fans are hoping the same happens for James McAtee, despite the endless links with moves away this summer.
Either way, the manager must make some changes during the summer transfer window after such a disappointing campaign across all competitions.
Being knocked out of the Champions League and Carabao Cup at early stages was a shock to the system for many fans, but after the news of Kevin De Bruyne’s Man City exit, many are understanding that a passing of the torch awaits this summer.
