Nedim Bajrami ‘done’ at Rangers

Rangers have already been tipped to part ways with Nedim Bajrami despite the Albanian arriving at Ibrox just eight months ago.

The Light Blues splashed £3.4million on the midfielder last summer [Sky Sports], with Philippe Clement desperate to close the gap on Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

With the rivals currently separated by 15 points at the top of the table, and Brendan Rodgers‘ side set to lift their 55th league title, their recruitment strategy has left many supporters underwhelmed.

Hamza Igamane’s emergence at Ibrox has been a rare win for the Gers, though Robin Propper, who has been regularly slammed by Rangers fans, possibly costing the club up to £2.7million [Daily Record].

It is seemingly the 26-year-old midfielder who has left supporters the most disappointed this season, however, with Tam McManus suggesting that Rangers had their “pants pulled down” over Bajrami.

Clearly, Si Ferry has echoed those same thoughts, heavily suggesting that this could already be the new signing’s final season in Light Blue.

Nedim Bajrami already finished as a Rangers player

Speaking on the Open Goal YouTube channel (15 April), while discussing potential summer exits at Ibrox, Ferry asked: “What about Bajrami? He’s done, isn’t he?”

However, Ross McCormack suggested otherwise when he replied: “I actually thought he did well second-half [v Aberdeen] before he came off, but I don’t think,” before being cut off by Paul Slane.

The former midfielder said: “He’s playing centre-mid. Are you telling me Rangers, with Rangers and Celtic getting a pick of the young boys in the country, don’t have any young kids that can play there, instead of Bajrami?”

Charlie Mulgrew quickly chimed in: “There was that wee boy, only 16, on the bench.”

Academy graduate, Aiden McCallion, was named on the Gers’ bench for the clash, but with the team down to 10 men, it was always unlikely for him to feature.

Barry Ferguson has tough rebuild job as permanent Rangers manager

Football Insider verdict

While it is unclear what Barry Ferguson’s future holds at Rangers once the season finishes, it has become obvious that whoever takes charge before next season will have some difficult decisions to make.

The 49ers Enterprises’ proposed takeover of Rangers has offered a lot of excitement ahead of the summer transfer window, but the income of funds is unlikely to all be handed out at once.

Before any big-name signings can be made, such as making Vaclav Cerny‘s move permanent, there will need to be several high-profile exits, ones which can free up funds and lower the wage bill.

Jack Butland, Ridvan Yilmaz, Tom Lawrence and Cyriel Dessers have all been added to fans’ lists of players they would be happy to see leave, wanting a fresh start after another disappointing campaign.

Bajrami will be bumped right to the front of many of those lists, having been benched in vital matches over Celtic and Fenerbahce in recent weeks, clearly not doing enough to impress under Ferguson.
