‘The work of a genius’ – Celtic fans react to announcement ahead of Rangers clash

Celtic supporters have taken to social media to complain about Bobby Madden’s appointment as referee for the Old Firm derby on Saturday.

The Scottish FA announced Madden would be in charge on their official website on Wednesday..

Many still remember the controversial meeting between the teams last season when Madden failed to award the Hoops a penalty for what looked to be a foul on Leigh Griffiths by Clint Hill. The penalty wasn’t given and the matched ended 1-1.

Celtic will go into the match at least eight points clear of their oldest rivals following their 2-0 win over Dundee on Boxing Day.

Goals from James Forrest and Leigh gave the Hoops all three points in a game overshadowed by an ankle injury suffered by Jonny Hayes.

Rangers face Motherwell at Ibrox on Wednesday night in their game in hand on the league leaders, as they attempt to close the gap on both Celtic and second placed Aberdeen, who they trail by three points.

The first Glasgow derby of this season ended in a comfortable 2-0 won for the Bhoys at Ibrox in September thanks to goals from Tom Rogic and Leigh Griffiths.

The teams are due to meet again at Ibrox on the 10th of March.
