Marvin Compper makes bold Celtic claim after finalising terms
New Celtic star Marvin Compper believes the Scottish champions are one of the “biggest” clubs in the world after swapping the Bundesliga for the Scottish Premiership.
The German defender was confirmed on Wednesday to have signed a two-and-a-half year deal to join Brendan Rodgers’ side from RB Leipzig on January 1st.
Compper becomes only the third German to play for the Glasgow giants and should bring some experience and stability to a struggling Hoops defence.
One-time German international Compper admitted he was “very keen” on the move when he heard of Celtic’s interest.
“When I first heard of the interest I was very keen because Celtic are one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Compper said, as quoted by Celtic TV’s official Twitter account.
The 32-year-old has only made three appearances for RB Leipzig this season – including a Champions League appearance in the defeat by Besiktas on Matchday 6 – and will have the benefit of three weeks during the winter break to get to know his new team-mates.
After the Old Firm clash on December 30th, Celtic are out of action until January 20th when they host Brechin City in the Scottish Cup.
Compper has also played for Borussia Mönchengladbach, Hoffenheim and Fiorentina before joining Leipzig in 2014.
The German’s only international appearance came against England in November 2008 in a friendly and made him the first Hoffenheim player to be capped by the German national team.
