Marvin Compper: This is what Celtic can expect from me
New Celtic defender Marvin Compper has revealed that he was signed by the Scottish champions because of how experienced he is in comparison to the other defenders at the club.
Speaking to Celtic’s official Twitter account, the 32-year-old signing from Leipzig revealed that the Hoops were “looking for experience” when they signed him and “that is what the club are getting with me”.
The Hoops’ defence has had an experienced figure since the retirement of Kolo Toure at the end of last season.
Compper, who has played over 300 games in a career which has taken in spells at Hoffenheim and Fiorentina certainly fits that description.
The Bhoys defence looked particularly poor against Hearts in the 4-0 loss which saw the Hoops’ unbeaten run come to a halt and Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that the new signing will bring some solidity into that area of the park.
Compper will join up with his new team-mates on the 1st of January, and could make his debut against Brechin in the Scottish Cup.
The Hoops will attempt to bounce-back from the defeat to Hearts in their match against Partick Thistle at Celtic Park on Wednesday night.
A win would see Celtic increase their lead to five points over second placed Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership title race before the teams meet in a top of the table clash at Celtic Park on Saturday.
