Newcastle and Nottingham Forest left reeling by ‘mindboggling’ twists
Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest have been left stunned by how profit and sustainability rules have been restricting their potential progress.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson, questioned how tease are “going to close the gap” on the established clubs at the top of the Premier League.
Newcastle already had to sell Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson in the summer to comply with PSR, while Nottingham have previously received points deductions for their breach.
The situation is impacting clubs and their ability to provide the strongest squad possible in order to compete and challenge for European positions, as Newcastle and Forest are attempting to do.
Newcastle are capable of sustaining their spending
“It baffles, the mind boggles,” Robinson told Football Insider.
“I mean, all these years that Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City et cetera, they’ve been able to spend whatever they’ve wanted.
“The gap now you’ve got two owners with the Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, two owners that have got the wealth, they’ve got the finance to spend, they want to invest into football.

“The money’s going back into football, they’re sustainable, they can keep their club more than afloat.
“How are they going to close the gap?”
