Newcastle backed to seal ‘bargain’ Anthony Gordon deal after ‘sensational’ source update – pundit

Newcastle United have been backed to sign Anthony Gordon in a “sensational” move.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the winger’s future.

On Thursday (26 January) sources told Football Insider that Gordon has told Everton he wants to leave the club before the January window shuts amid interest from Newcastle United.

The winger, 21, is in talks to join Newcastle United in a £30million-plus deal but there is also strong interest in him from Chelsea.

McManus claims the transfer could prove to be a bargain.

“When he was at the peak of his powers last season, getting a lot of attention and scoring a lot of goals, then you are talking £60million,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“He has hardly kicked a ball this year. I like him, I think he is a very, very talented player. He needs to get out of Everton.

“He needs to get away and get a fresh start and he plays in the one area where Newcastle need to strengthen. They need some creativity.

“Gordon would help in that sense but the clubs need to find a middle ground. He is only 21 so if he goes into Newcastle and does well then it will be a bargain.

“Hopefully they can get this deal done. I think they will and think it could be a sensational bit of business.”

Gordon has scored three goals in 16 Premier League outings this season with 12 of those appearances coming from the start.

Newcastle United are next in action against Southampton in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday (31 January).
