Newcastle backed to sell Almiron this summer after Athletic reveal – pundit

Newcastle United should sell Miguel Almiron if a sizeable offer arrives, according to Paul Robinson.

The former Spurs and England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 27-year-old “is replaceable” despite being “one of the best players” at the club.

According to The Athletic (26th June), the Magpies may sell the Paraguay international if their asking price is met.

Almiron has three years remaining on his contract at St. James’ Park, having signed a five-and-a-half-year deal upon his arrival in January 2019.

In an interview with ABC Cardinal last season (March 26th), the attacking midfielder hinted at an exit when he claimed he wanted to play for a team that ‘fights more’.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Almiron’s future, Robinson said: “Almiron is one of their best players.

“He has done well since coming to the Premier League but at times I question his heart and his determination.

“He questioned his own teammates last season, which I thought was pretty rich.

“If Newcastle are in need of selling before buying I think he is a player that they could do without. He would be one of the ones I’d sell. He is replaceable.”

Almiron contributed five goals and three assists in 39 appearances across all competitions last season.

Joe Willock was the only midfielder to be directly involved in more goals for Steve Bruce’s side in the 2020-21 campaign.
