Newcastle could seal four more signings this month after £35m Badiashile update – pundit

Kevin Campbell has urged Newcastle to bring in as many as four more new faces this month.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested remedying the “problem position” at centre-half must be at the top of the list for Eddie Howe’s side.

A recruitment source told Football Insider today Newcastle want two centre-backs by the 31 January cut-off and discussions are continuing over a £35million deal for Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile, 20.

The Magpies have already had a £33million bid for the centre-back rejected, and negotiations are taking place with multiple stars.

Campbell claimed Newcastle can “virtually solve” their defensive crisis by bringing in two centre-halves this month.

“Listen, there are holes all over that Newcastle team right now,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“If they can bring in another two, three, four players, they’ve got to do it.

“Centre-half has been one of those problem positions for them. They might be able to get away with bringing just one centre-half in, but that means the other defender has to really step up.

“If they can get two centre-backs in, then they’ve virtually solved the problem.

“Given the number of players they’re being linked with, and the positions, I would expect four more signings by the time the window shuts.”

Newcastle

Chris Wood and Kieran Tripper have already joined Newcastle this month as they bid to avoid relegation from the top flight.

The Magpies, who have conceded the second-most Premier League goals this season (44), sit 19th – two points from safety.
