Newcastle ‘doing everything they can’ to finalise Sandro Tonali deal

Newcastle United have had a turbulent start to the season so far after what proved to be a difficult summer transfer window at St James’ Park.

Speculation surrounding Alexander Isak’s deadline day move to Liverpool dominated headlines in the North East and causes issues with their pre-season preparations.

However, Eddie Howe‘s side put together back-to-back wins before the international break and are now looking to push on starting with their return against Fulham.

Sandro Tonali‘s early-season performances have earned him high praise as he stands out as one of their most impressive players so far this season.

Despite the focus returning to matters on the pitch, speculation continues to surround the Magpies’ best players, with Tonali once again at the centre of speculation.

Juventus join race to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle

Tonali is frequently linked with a return to Italy, having left AC Milan to join Newcastle in 2023, and speculation has now been ramped up yet again.

However, the Magpies have been steadfast in their desire not to lose the midfielder and are now moving to deter any interest in his signature.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Juventus are the latest side to show an interest in Tonali, although Newcastle are preparing to do everything in their power to keep him at the club long-term.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Yeah, look, that interest from Italy is always going to be there and Sandro Tonali.

“Some Serie A clubs including the likes of Juventus would love to bring him back to Italy, but I’m sure Newcastle will be doing everything they can to keep hold of Tonali.

“The club will sit down and have discussions over a potential new contract just to sort of ward off that interest and kill off that speculation of a possible move back to Italy.

“Yeah, I don’t see any move for him in the immediate future back to Italy.

“He’s happy at Newcastle and Newcastle are obviously very happy with him.”

This comes after former Everton CEO Keith Wyness warned Football Insider that Tonali could struggle to turn down Juventus amid interest in a return to Italy.

Newcastle plan to offer Tonali a new contract

Newcastle have been tipped to extend star players’ contracts, with Bruno Guimaraes looking likely to pen a new deal at St James Park in the near future.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 14 October that Newcastle plan to offer Tonali a new contract to deter any interest in a departure.

The Italy international’s current deal is set to expire in 2027, meaning he could end up leaving the club for free if he does not commit to a new deal.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed in April that Newcastle are well-placed to keep Tonali at St James’ Park despite seemingly never-ending speculation.

Newcastle have placed a £130million price tag on Tonali, more than double the £60million fee they paid to land him, as they have no plans to see him go.
