Newcastle fans demand sale of ‘dreadful’ player as agreement close: ‘Eddie Howe destroys the club’

Newcastle United are on the verge of sealing an agreement that has already riled up their fanbase.

The Magpies eventually edged past Bournemouth on penalties in the FA Cup on Saturday, after a 2-2 draw during the initial 90 minutes.

Newcastle fans tore into Joe Willock for his display, in what was a frustrating afternoon for the Tynesiders, in which they squandered a lead on two separate occasions.

Aaron Ramsdale was ultimately the hero, as he saved three Bournemouth penalties to send his team through to the next round of the competition, but there has been yet more discontent from supporters at St James’ Park.

Newcastle fans fume as Sven Botman deal is close

Football Insider revealed back in November that Newcastle were trying to tie Sven Botman down to a new long-term contract amid interest from Liverpool.

The Dutchman has struggled with injuries again this term, as his start in the cup victory over Bournemouth was the first time that he has featured from the off since 9 November.

That contract agreement is now “close” to being reached, with Eddie Howe and Co. understood to have made “significant progress” in their talks over recent weeks, according to journalist Craig Hope via his X account.

Botman’s current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2027, but fans have been left frustrated by the news of his imminent renewal due to his availability issues and lack of consistency.

One supporter took to X to demand that Newcastle sell the centre-back, suggesting that his injuries have badly harmed his career, while another added that the injury has seen him lose his pace.

One fan questioned the imminent new deal and branded Botman as an “absolute crock,” while another labelled it as “dreadful news.”

Tino Livramento should be Newcastle’s main transfer priority

Tino Livramento picked up another injury at Newcastle as he was forced off shortly before the hour mark of this weekend’s cup tie.

Howe has suggested that he may face a prolonged period on the sidelines, which will be a huge source of frustration for everyone at St James’ Park.

The talented full-back has been heavily linked with an exit in recent months, with the likes of Manchester City seemingly sniffing around a potential move for Livramento.

Regardless of his latest injury setback, the Magpies must surely be doing everything that they can to prioritise sorting out a new deal for the defender, well in advance of his current terms expiring in 2028.

The only way that Newcastle can completely ward off interest is by tying him down to a new long-term deal, and at the very least, that would give them more bargaining power in terms of a fee should City come knocking.
