Newcastle fans’ favourite blasts treatment as he confirms January exit plans
Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has blasted the club’s treatment of him as he confirmed he is looking to depart St James’ Park in the January transfer window.
The Serbian powerhouse, who has established himself as a firm fans’ favourite on Tyneside with his passionate performances, has found himself dropped to the third choice striker by manager Rafael Benitez, with a distinct lack of game time under his belt this season.
The 23-year-old has managed to make just seven appearances across all competitions this season, six of which have come in the league, but despite netting in his first two outings of the season, he has not started a single top flight game.
Now he has confirmed his plans to leave the north east club in January, blasting the treatment he has undergone by the club, despite insisting he has put all his efforts into trying to force his way into Benitez’s first team plans.
As quoted by the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder on his personal Twitter account, he said: “I have persistently waited for the chance over the past months and I do not welcome it.
“I’m sorry, after all, I loved Newcastle but it’s time for me to look more myself, to find the best solution for my career.”
Since joining from Belgian side Anderlecht in the summer of 2015, he has gone on the make 72 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 17 goals and chipping in with a further 10 assists, but is now behind summer signing Joselu and last season’s top scorer Dwight Gayle in the pecking order.
In other Newcastle United transfer news, Benitez is readying to secure the exits of four figures in January.
