Newcastle fans in love with ‘phenomenal’ star vs PSV – he’s ‘finally arrived’ at St James’ Park
Newcastle United had plenty to celebrate on Wednesday as they cruised past PSV in a 3-0 victory in the Champions League.
It was a wonderful performance, with the three points guaranteeing the Magpies’ place in the knockout stage.
While a place in the top eight is still to play for, Newcastle can now relax a little, with their poor performance against Wolves on the weekend quickly forgotten.
As a result of the win, many fans were quick to heap praise on Yoane Wissa, who picked up a goal and an assist.
Newcastle fans heavily praise Yoane Wissa for performance vs PSV
While many Newcastle players were excellent against PSV, few were better than Wissa.
The attacker put in a dominant performance, with the Dutch giants unable to handle the former Brentford man.
After tapping home the opener, Wissa essentially made the second goal himself, as he put the ball on a plate for Anthony Gordon to bundle home.
Wissa had a tough time at St James’ Park since his arrival, with injuries limiting his impact early on. However, after a goal and an assist on Wednesday, supporters now believe that he has truly arrived.
He’s been class today, running all over, pressing high up, winning the ball, he’s being an absolute nuance. This is the wissa we bought

Joelinton’s passing has been dreadful so far. Wissa is having a class game though, the little man is literally everywhere #nufc

How good was Wissa vs PSV?
According to Fotmob on 21 January, Wissa was easily the best player on the pitch on Wednesday.
On top of his goal and assist, the striker produced two shots, created one chance, had a 0.76 xG, as well as five touches in the opposition box.
Wissa was also arguably unlucky not to win a penalty in the second half after he was brought down inside the box when attempting to head the ball.
| Yoane Wissa’s stats vs PSV | |
| Minutes | 72 |
| Goals | 1 |
| Assists | 1 |
| Shots | 2 |
| Chances created | 1 |
| xG | 0.76 |
| Touches in opposition box | 5 |
Nevertheless, it was clearly an excellent display from the attacker, as he showed exactly what he was capable of on the biggest stage.
Hopefully, this is now a moment for Wissa to really kick on and show everyone why Newcastle paid such a hefty sum for him in the summer.
If he can continue these types of performances for the foreseeable future, there is no doubt that he will be a success at St James’ Park over the coming months as they look to go as far as possible in the Champions League.
