Newcastle fans rage at rival ‘jealousy’ after huge news as legal action mooted
Newcastle United fans have exploded after the news that the Premier League confirmed changes to their rules on APT (Associated Party Transactions).
The new regulations will now limit the amount of money clubs can receive from sponsors who have links with the owners of the team in question.
It is reported by Chronicle Live that Newcastle – along with Man City, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest – were the four Premier League to vote against the restrictions.
But with that opposition failing the Magpies will now find the funds they can receive from the partners of their owners, the Saudi PIF, restricted.
Eddie Howe’s side may therefore find it more difficult to sign players in upcoming transfer windows than would otherwise have been the case.
Given the need for them to strengthen their squad in the market, that appears to be a major concern for those of a Newcastle persuasion.
Newcastle fans unimpressed by Premier League APT ruling
With the funds that PIF and their connections have available to them, being able to fully invest in the club could have given Howe an even stronger and more competitive squad.
As a result, many Newcastle supporters appeared to feel their side are being held back by the Premier League through this new ruling, amid “jealousy” at their untapped backing.
Some even suggested their rivals are “scared” of what the club could potentially achieve in the future if they are fully backed.
Others meanwhile, believe this could force the club and their few allies to take more significant legal action.
In other news, Newcastle have been warned they could be forced to sell Alexander Isak to Arsenal.
